Psalm 28
Blessed
be the LORD! For he has heard the voice of my
pleas for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my
shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my
song I give thanks to him.The LORD is the strength of his
people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.Oh, save your people and bless your
heritage! Be their
shepherd and carry them forever.
An afternoon walk in 85 degree
weather isn’t always such a delight. But
as I lift up my eyes, I see the clouds billowing up and the setting sun
reflecting off them in such brilliance.
As I walk, I listen to the Psalms,
chapter 28 starts, “Blessed be the LORD!”
And this is how I feel as I look at the majesty of his hand in
creation. I have looked at the leaves,
the flowers, the trees, the grass, but something special happens when I look up
and see his majesty in the sky. I made 2
loops around the neighborhood, and by the second time around, these clouds were
just grey images in the sky.
Made me think about the passing of
time, the opportunities we have to see the beauty of God – sometimes just for a
moment – and then we go back into the grayness/blandness of life. God gives us glimpses of His glory to remind
us that He is ever present – and even in the dark times, He is there.
I would love to sit for hours and
look at these clouds, but as the sun goes down, their brilliance fades and they
become a part of the darkness behind them.
I think often the same is true as I sit and talk with God. The glory of His majesty is wonderful to think
about and to look at, but I cannot just sit and stare, I must return to the
normal things of life.
It makes me long for the day that we
will see Him face to face and live in the light of His glory for all
eternity. No more fading glimpses. No more darkness. Only face to face with the splendor of his
Glory. Oh, what a day that will be.
