Today is the first day of our “unusual” Bundles of Love trip
as this is my first Bundles trip without Dee and Harrison. I know that is going to change the dynamic of
the trip for me, and the fact that it is a small team will be different as
well.
The day started with Dee and I picking Jack up at AMG and
then heading to the Chattanooga airport to meet Wayne and head off to
Atlanta. We arrived at the airport
around 5:30 and Wayne was there shortly after we arrived. We made our way through the airport and then
shortly after we were loaded up and heading for Atlanta.
By a little after 8:30 AM, we had collected Ben at the B-07
gate and the four of us were on our way to E-17 to catch our flight to
Guatemala. Our uneventful flight arrived in Guatemala on time, and by around
1:00 PM we were in the van with six of the Wilson family and Amber (an
impromptu team member this week) all heading to Thelma’s. After a quick stop at Pollo Campero for
lunch, we arrived at Thelma’s and unpacked and settled in for a great week. By 4:30 the team was finally all together
with the addition of Doug and Lynne meeting us at Thelmas. We had our meeting (our usual orientation
meeting) and then we spent some time just learning about each other.
My first impression is that this is going to be an
interesting team full of wonderful stories and lots of wisdom as we rehearse
together the stories and experiences we have had. With the average team age at 53 (and it is
only this low because of our 17 year old member), this group of individuals
have experienced God’s love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, strength, etc in a
variety of ways, and they love to share with each other.
We ate dinner, shared stories, and just talked about the
expectations for the week. We took time
for reading God’s word, praying and preparing for our devotional time in the
morning as well. It has been a great
day, but a long one.
The internet isn’t working, but Abby and Amber stopped by to
bring the team phone so we could call home.
Thank God for the little blessings – it was great to talk to family back
home. It has only been a few hours, but
naturally we are missing them already.
Tomorrow is church and preparation time for Bundles. After a good night’s sleep, I know the team
will be ready to move into action!!
