We had a great start to the day
as we ate breakfast at 7:30. We had
oatmeal, refried beans and boiled eggs.
After breakfast we had a short introduction to the jobs that we would be
doing, and then Roy read off the names of the people who made up each
group.
The team broke into three groups
in all with three very different assignments.
Group one was responsible for the
new layout of the pharmacy. They had a
lot of furniture, shelving and miscellaneous other items to move. They were
taking down makeshift walls and Alan is developing the new layout for the new
walls they are building this week. This
team spent most of the afternoon painting the walls – 3 coats in some areas.
Group 2 is moving the laundry
room from one room in the facility to another and they have to dig up the floor
and lay pipe for multiple washers and run electricity for the multiple dryers
as well. They had to tear down some existing
fencing and break off wall toppers. Adam
was laying brick on the top of the wall to close in the back of the new room.
Group 3 is working at a local
church connected with the hospital. The
church hosts a “child care” center where they help children after school. This will be an actual AMG childcare center
next year, but they are in the process of running the pipes for the new
restrooms. Jeff and Phil worked together
on leading this team, and boy did they do a lot of work as they cut through the
concrete flooring to prepare to lay the drainage system.
At 4:30 we broke for the day, and
dinner was at 5:30. A number of the team
members jumped into the pool to cool off.
You will have to ask about the amazing view we had as the sky put on a
miraculous display of color. I pray the
pictures that were taken can show the wonder of the event.
Devotions are scheduled for 6,
and soccer is scheduled for 7:30 – 9:30.
The locals are looking forward to playing against the gringos. We have a team from the hospital and from the
local church that are excited about challenging us. There is even a group of girls wanting our
girls to play – we will see how that goes.
Tomorrow is more of the
same. More hammering, sawing, painting,
working. This team amazed me in Mexico
and I expect that they will be amazed at what God does through them as they
continue to work. Praise the Lord, as of
right now, only minor injuries have surfaced – scrapes, cuts, blisters,
etc. We could use prayer for
health. I must say, with the food we are
eating – Chicken for dinner, beef for lunch – it has been easy being strong for
the work we have had to do. The
Guatemalan women are doing a wonderful job of feeding us.
BY THE WAY – I forgot to mention –
as I was getting ready for bed last night, I was opening the windows to allow
for a breeze – only to find an AIR CONDITIONER in the window!! Woo-hoo!!
I turned it on, and immediately Roy came over and put it on High – he said,
“if we are gonna turn it on, lt’s really turn it on.” We were very comfortable last night – Praise the
Lord.
Thanks Ken Your detail is wonderful. I feel like I'm with you all. Lisa Barto
