Navigators - Guatemala Trip - Day 1

The day began at 4:00 in the morning for me, but many of the team members were up the better part of the night.  They had to travel from Portland, Maine to Boston, Mass. for their 6:00 AM flight. Both flights went very smoothly and we all met in Atlanta shortly before our second flight to Guatemala.

We met at gate T-7.  Eight ladies and 3 guys make up the team today and another is joining us tomorrow.  This team is unusual in that there are so many different situations, but from what I see very quickly this team is going to be very unique and very interesting.

We arrived in Guatemala – fairly uneventful trip – and we headed right to Thelma’s house.  After a brief introduction to the country and the “do’s and don’ts” of being a visitor here, we had lunch.

After lunch a number of kids laid down for a nap, while others swam in the pool (with Rachel getting carried into the pool by Colby).  Eventually everyone was up and since we were waiting for dinner, we played some games – a question game and a name game – both need a little explanation, but it was fun to watch the team interact with each other.

Finally we had dinner and then went to CAG to watch the missionary kids put on a production of “the Wizard of Oz”.  They did an excellent job – Mandy’s son was the scarecrow and he did a wonderful job.

The team is very tired (as am I) and it is almost 10:45 local time (12:45 at home).  It’s been a long day.  Tomorrow is church at the Fraternidad  in the morning and then Brandon should be joining us in the afternoon.

I am praying that God would merge these young people together in their service, and that He would do great things with them this week.
