I am tired - it has been a long day!
We started early and drove to Montericco, Guatemala on the Pacific coast. We arrived around 10:30 after our 2 hour drive (that actually took 3 hours!). We stopped at a hotel and dropped our things off and then headed for the beach. The hotel was beautiful - just a quaint place next to the beach.
The team jumped in and enjoyed the water. Jonathan, Steve, Jim and Anna were body surfing - it was hilarious. The undertow was so strong that they had a hard time standing up. The others joined them in the surf, but only a few got completely wet. Coleman and Jeanie headed off for a walk, and the rest of us just enjoyed hanging out.
Eventually I made my way back to the hotel, Teresa was going to lay down, and I did some laps while I waited for the others. Eventually Jim joined me, and we talked and swam for a while. Kim stopped by to get some money because vendors found our team on the beach, and they were spending money again. This group loves to buy things!
We had both lunch and dinner at the hotel - the food was wonderful. We spent much of the afternoon in the pool - the water was amazing and the pool was huge! It was a wonderful day of relaxing. Some of the team went shopping in the later afternoon, right before dinner.
After dinner we headed home. On the way, we say Pacaya (the active volcano) and it was spewing lava. Because it was dark, the mountain top just glowed! It was cool to see - we opened the van door as we drove so everyone could see. We were ooh-ing and aah-ing. It was fun.
Eventually we arrived back at Thelmas and got packed for the return flight tomorrow. Not an early flight, but we won't arrive back in Chattanooga until around 8 PM.
It has been a wonderful week - the team did a great job - 36 surgeries and 4 babies delivered. It was a blessing to be a part of.
Enough for now - it's time for bed!
