We began the day after breakfast by leaving for Corinth around 9:00 AM. The drive was about 1 1/2 hours, and we got to see much of the countryside. Greece is a beautiful country with the crystal blue Mediterranean (Aegean) Sea along the coast line of the area we were driving and mountains shooting up out of the earth almost randomly. The views are just beautiful.
We went to the Corinth Canal - picture above - which was a canal started by Nero but finished in the 1800s. It is an amazing thing to look at. From there we went to the temple of Aphrodite on the top of the acropolis of Corinth. From the very top, you could see all around the city of Corinth and what an amazing view it was.
From there we went to lunch at a restaurant near the entrance to the canal, and then headed back to ancient Corinth. Due to strikes all over the country, the entrance to the gated city was closed, but we were able to see the rock marking the treasurer Erastus (you will have to ask the story - it is an amazing confirmation of the writings of Paul), and we were able to see the city through the gate. It was disappointing not being able to go into the city, but since it was raining anyway, the team was okay with the outside review.
Speaking of rain - they tell me it never rains in Greece, especially this time of year. Since we have been here, it has rained 3 of the 5 days we have been here. We are praying for clearer weather for the upcoming days, especially since we will be on the beach in Leptokaria, but if that is what God wants, so be it.
Looking forward to a 5 hour drive, a stop at the hot springs, a historical stop and lunch along the way tomorrow. We are heading to work at a missions conference in northern Greece. Tomorrow will be another exciting day.
